Electrical Panel Upgrades & Replacements

Older 60A and 100A panels can't keep up with heat pumps, EV chargers, AC and modern appliances. We upgrade you to a safe, code-compliant 200A service — permits and inspection included.

Electrical Panel Upgrades & Replacements — PowerX Electrical

Most homes in the Lower Mainland built before the 1990s still run 60A or 100A service — undersized for today's heat pumps, EV chargers, hot tubs and home offices. A panel upgrade gives you the capacity and safety modern living demands, and is often required before adding a Level 2 EV charger or suite.

PowerX handles the whole job: load calculation, permit, BC Hydro coordination, the panel swap itself, and the final Technical Safety BC inspection. We label every circuit cleanly and leave you with a panel you can actually understand.

What a panel upgrade includes

  • Full electrical load calculation for your home
  • 100A or 200A service upgrade
  • Fuse box & obsolete panel replacement
  • Federal Pioneer / Zinsco panel replacement
  • Aluminum branch wiring remediation
  • Permit pulled & BC Hydro coordination
  • Clean circuit labelling & tidy terminations
  • Final Technical Safety BC inspection

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a panel upgrade cost?
Most residential 200A upgrades fall in a predictable range depending on your meter base, service mast and BC Hydro requirements. We give you a fixed written quote after a quick assessment — no guesswork.
Do I need a 200A panel for an EV charger?
Not always — it depends on your current load. We run a calculation first. Many homes can add a Level 2 charger on a 100A service, but a 200A upgrade future-proofs you for heat pumps and more.
Will my power be out during the upgrade?
Power is off only for part of the day while we swap the panel. We schedule efficiently and coordinate with BC Hydro to keep the outage as short as possible.
